Tournament Introduction

Mr. Sven Tumba established World Golfers Championship (WGC) in 1995, and currently more than 30 countries are participating.

WGC gives the average golf amateur an opportunity to play in a worldwide event and represent their country in a way similar to what the professionals do in The Ryder Cup, President’s Cup and The Solheim Cup.

By playing in different flight levels, everybody competes on an equal and fair level against players of their own caliber.

Every country starts with qualification tournaments on local or regional levels leading into a National Final, where the 5 winners will be crowned to be the representatives of their respective country.  What other sport will give the average competitor an opportunity to represent their country like this?

Beginning with a flag parade of all participating countries, you will feel like you are part of an Olympic event.  At the end there will be Five Individual World Golfers Champions as well as the prestigious World Golfers Championship Team award.

You can be part of this! Contact your local club and ask if they are hosting a qualification event.  If not, check our website for the nearest participating club.

World Golfers Championship recognizes five winners. One in each flight and all of them has the same possibility to be on the National Team and become World Champions.

This will excite more players and make your event better attended at all levels.

In addition, World Golfers Championship can be used as an incentive to attract more members to your club, since this opportunity will not be available at all country clubs.

The Event:

The World Golfers Championship is being held annually, normally in the end or middle of November. In the past years the tournaments have been held in Dominican Republic, Thailand, Turkey and South Africa. In 2007 the World Finals was held in Malaysia, and in 2008 the World Finals will take place in Florida. Currently approximately 25 – 30 countries are involved, and it all starts with local and regional qualification tournaments, followed by National Finals to create the five person team that will then represent their country. This is a unique opportunity for most people, normally only available to the world’s elite.

The World Final is a weeklong event. Two practice rounds followed by four competitive rounds. At the end, there will be team champions, as well as individual champions.

The National Finals will be held approximately one month prior to the World Finals.
